Accessibility Statement
We want everyone to be able to browse and book on this site. Here's an honest account of where we stand.
Last Updated: 19 July 2026Our Commitment
St Clements Old Rectory wants this website to be usable by as many people as possible, including guests using a screen reader, keyboard-only navigation, voice control, or who have low vision, motor impairments, or cognitive differences. This is a small, independently-run site rather than a large commercial platform, so this statement is a straightforward account of what we've done and what's still outstanding — not a claim of full or certified compliance.
1. Standard We Aim For
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. This is the widely recognised standard for web accessibility, and the one referenced in UK accessibility regulations for public bodies — we're not legally required to meet it as a private business, but we treat it as the practical benchmark.
2. What We've Done
Text and background colours across the site meet WCAG AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
All meaningful images have descriptive alternative text
Every form field has a visible, associated label
Pages use a logical heading structure (h1, h2, h3) so screen reader users can navigate by heading
A "Skip to main content" link is available for keyboard and screen reader users at the top of every page
Interactive elements show a visible focus indicator when navigated to by keyboard
Icon-only buttons have a text label for screen readers
Animations and transitions are disabled automatically if your device has "reduce motion" turned on
The page language is correctly set so screen readers use the right pronunciation rules
3. Known Limitations
In the interest of being straightforward rather than overselling this:
This site has not been independently audited or certified against WCAG 2.1 AA — the work so far is based on our own review, not a formal accessibility audit
Some content is provided by third parties we don't control — payment forms (Stripe) and the live reviews widget (Elfsight/TripAdvisor) — and their accessibility is governed by their own teams, not us
We haven't yet tested with a full range of assistive technologies (e.g. every combination of screen reader and browser)
4. Reporting an Accessibility Problem
If you find something on this site that's difficult to use, or you need information in a different format, please tell us — we'd genuinely like to know and will do what we can to help or fix it.

If you'd prefer to book by phone or email instead of using the website, that's no problem — just get in touch via the same address.
